Daniel E Best is the shareholder with Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA. He is in charge of the Consumer Collections Unit for the Detroit office of the law firm of and is a member of the firm's Management Committee. His practice focuses on consumer collections, commercial collections, foreclosures and secured transactions. Mr. Best regularly handles collection litigation involving credit card accounts, lines of credit, home equity loans, car loans, boats loans and deficiency balances. He also has a breath of experience in collecting on student loans, both through legal and traditional agency means. Over the course of his career, he has foreclosed on preferred ship mortgages and maintained actions to recover fraudulent conveyances recovering both personal and real property, to be liquidated and applied to outstanding judgments. Mr. Best also has experience in pursuing subrogation collections on behalf of auto insurers; homeowners insurers, title insurers and title companies. He has also assisted small businesses, including medical providers, attorneys and accountants with collections on their non-paying accounts. Mr. Best formerly oversaw the complete operations of the firm's Michigan office, which he founded in 1998. He is a regular presenter on collection related issues, including the litigation process, recovery of property (both real and personal) through legal means and execution on judgments. Mr. Best earned his B.S. degree from The Ohio State University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Ohio State, the Michigan Creditor's Bar Association and American (member, Business Law Section, Credit Union Committee) bar associations. Mr. Best is also active with the Michigan Traveling Circus, an organization consisting of vendors to the finance industry which raises money for scholarship given to college students studying finance.
