No. The State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division program is an optional certification through the State Bar of Texas and is not required by the state of Texas.

Active and Associate Members of the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division
What is the CLE requirement for the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division?
6.00 hours of substantive continuing legal education every year, including 1.00 legal ethics hour.
Substantive courses include procedural subjects of law, legal skills and techniques, legal ethics or professional responsibility, alternative dispute resolution and law practice management.
When is the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division Reporting Deadline?
May 31st, each year
How can Texas paralegals fulfill their CLE requirement?
A minimum of 4.00 credit hours must be taken as live programs.
A maximum of 2.00 credit hours may be taken as self study programs. 1.00 hour of legal ethics cannot be self-study.
Can I meet the CLE requirement by completing a Texas attorney CLE approved course?
Yes. Members of the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division are allowed credit for attorney CLE approved courses.

How do I report my Texas paralegal CLE credits?
It is the member's responsibility to track MCLE-Approved and document Non MCLE-Approved activities. See the CLE Attendance Recording page on the State Bar of Texas, Paralegal Division website for the details of the process.
As a reminder, do NOT discard your certificates of attendance. You should maintain a personal CLE file with copies of the seminar brochures and certificates of attendance in case any clarification is needed as random audits are performed by the Division's CLE Committee.

How many paralegal CLE credits do Board Certified Paralegals by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization need?
Paralegals who are certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in a particular area of law have to complete 75 credits every five years in whichever specialty area they are certified.

Yes. A maximum of ten (10) credit hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.
Do Board Certified Paralegals by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization have a course level requirement?
Yes. Course must be intermediate level or higher to qualify.
