Overview
Know Where the Line Is Before You Cross It
Can you explain what a legal document means without giving legal advice? What if you know exactly how the attorney would answer the client's question? And if AI generates the answer, can you pass it along? The line between helpful and unauthorized practice isn't always obvious. This practical ethics course tackles the UPL questions paralegals encounter in everyday practice, from client communications, intake, drafting, and negotiations to litigation, remote work, and AI. Explore what can be delegated, what crosses the line, and how to handle the gray areas that don't come with an easy answer. Put your instincts to the test with realistic hypotheticals and learn when to proceed, when to stop, and when to bring in the attorney. Register today!
- Distinguish legal information from legal advice in everyday client communications.
- Spot UPL pitfalls in common transactional and litigation tasks.
- Recognize the limits on paralegal involvement in settlement discussions and negotiations.
- Navigate emerging UPL concerns involving remote work, AI, and online communications.
